Enduring Absence

Your exquisite eyes melted my heart,
When you looked, my soul sparkled.
Present in my heart, you were with an enduring absence.

We missed the perfect moment,
Came close as this to love and let it pass.
Wrapped arms around a dream and lost hold.

I wait in hope someday you realize,
How perfect and adored you are in my eyes.
With promise my affection will never grow weary.

For two who loved, but loved not quite enough,
I am grateful we can endure old reminders.
Like playthings we have long since outgrown.

It may even be that someday I shall see dreamy-eyed beauties, and not your eyes,
And never turn my head.
